Hi, I'm Kerry Figart, creator of Born to Thrive, where I offer help and support for women who want to live a healthier life and feel comfortable in their own skin, so they can LOOK, FEEL, and BE their best!
I started on my health and wellness journey when I was 31 years old and working in a correctional facility. One day I got into a physical altercation with an inmate, and after having my head slammed into a concrete wall, ended up with a concussion.
That was the moment I knew I needed to get into better shape. I mean, having your head slammed into a concrete wall can be an excellent source of motivation, right?
So, getting into shape was exactly what I did. I conducted all the research, started making healthy meals, and began to exercise regularly. It wasn't long until I was in the best shape of my life.
For a while, it seemed that I could eat whatever I wanted...even enjoy my favorite end-of-day relaxation--an ice-cold IPA (or two), and not gain any weight.
And then...things changed. Looking back, I can see that it was a combination of things all happening around the same time that contributed to my weight gain.
In August of 2020, I quit my job as an elementary school teacher (where I was literally on my feet ALL DAY) and began to work from home as well as homeschool my 9-year-old son.
And I'm sure some of you can relate to this when I say that...working from home...well...this is kind of embarrassing but...showers, real clothes, and exercise are not exactly required; in fact, I would consider them 'optional' at best.
And then, in addition to working from home, I turned 44 in November of 2021. And that, my friends, was when my hormones REALLY started to betray me.
At that point, I hadn't felt like my normal self for quite a while, but it still felt like overnight...that I went from my normal weight of between 145-150 lbs...to a whopping 183 lbs!
And I only discovered this because I casually decided to step on the scale at my in-law's house while over there for Christmas dinner. (I knew I was gaining some weight. But when you only wear sweats or leggings, and you have no scale at your house, well...you get it, I'm sure.)
So, there I was. I had gained almost 40 pounds, seemingly overnight.
And I knew this wasn't what I wanted for myself. So, I thought, "Hey! I've done this before. No problem!"
...Only this time, I wasn't 31. I was 44. And I soon began to discover that this wasn't going to be as easy as it had been in the past. All the things I had done before to lose weight...well, none of them worked. In fact, NOTHING was working!
Luckily, I was VERY determined. I am a firm believer that "where there's a will, there's a way," and so I set about finding that way. And I did.
I turned the information I found into an easy-to-follow video guide, and that's EXACTLY what I want to share with you today.
Because I know that if I can do it, so can YOU!
